How to Elevate Your Value in the Marketplace

If you’ve been following me long enough, you’ve probably heard me say more than once, “it takes work to find work.” And this is becoming increasingly more true as the nature of work evolves and technology advances.

Not only do you have to be excellent at what you do, but you also have to be a great copywriter, publicist and marketer to excel in up-leveling your career. There’s the resume, the job applications, the personal website, the cover letters, the personal brand, the networking, the SEO, the keywords…let’s face it — it’s a ton to keep track of.

When I work with my clients, we focus on four key areas to elevate their earning potential in the marketplace (i.e., make more moolah and have a greater impact).

Self Development

I encourage a method of self-development that helps you tap into your inner guidance, truth and wisdom. There is so much advice online to help you, but ultimately that can be confusing and distracting from doing the real work. And I believe the real work is a process of going within yourself to find your way, because everything you need is you and within you — all you have to do is listen.

Personal Branding

Once you’ve done the work towards understanding yourself and your goals, you want to focus on building your personal brand— all the elements that make up brand you. Be consistent in the way you talk about yourself online and offline, in the visuals you share (including videos) and the audiences you are targeting. For example, if you want to become a leader in the field of technology you will need to share information, resources, visuals and videos relevant and useful to those in this field.

Now that your personal brand is clear and consistent across all channels, you should spend time networking with those in your target areas for growth. A great way to do this is to go to networking events in your sector, but you can also conduct informational interviews, volunteer on a board, or be a mentor to someone in need.

When all your hard work starts to pay off, it is incredibly important that you know your value in the marketplace — What is competitive pay for your type of work? What is your unique contribution? How are you one-of-a-kind in what you do? From there, you can begin the work towards negotiating your worth with your current or future employer in a way that is creative, collaborative and empowering.

These four steps are no small goals to achieve. It takes great dedication and commitment to overcoming resistance so that you can, indeed, increase your value in the marketplace and raise your earning potential.

That's why I'm here to help. Soon, I'll be announcing a group coaching program aimed at helping you develop these four key areas to elevate your earning potential, so stay tuned...
